Our Classes
As a member of U-Turn Parkinson’s not only do you gain access to wellness classes but you gain a community of people that understand the difficulties you may be facing in day-to-day life at all stages of Parkinson’s disease. We not only care about your physical well-being, but we empower you by providing a social and emotional support team that truly understands and cares about each of our members.
In-Person Classes
Discover an extensive range of class options tailored to your unique needs and interests. Here, you will find all of U-TurnPD’s in-person class options, carefully crafted to empower individuals in their pursuit of wellness. When you join our in-person class options, you not only gain the physical benefits of our exercises, but you also gain access to a community of like-minded people who share a deep understanding of living with Parkinson’s disease.
Empower U (Green/Yellow)
Empower-U is a fun, upbeat, Parkinson’s-specific program for anybody living with PD! The class provides a full-body workout combining functional strength training, stretching, range of motion, coordination, balance, and agility exercises.
Participants in this program will be able to join at a pace that works for them, while working up a sweat and achieving health benefits for Parkinson’s. It is a great option for those new to exercise, needing exercise modifications, seated exercises, and volunteer assistance (for in-person classes) provided for safety and ability.
The online version of the class is a great opportunity for those wanting to exercise from home or are unable to join us in-person. For those with dumbbells at home, you are welcome to use them, but no equipment is necessary!
Golden Gloves (Orange/Red)
Golden Gloves is a fun and high energy class that uses high-intensity interval training and boxing movements to maintain or improve strength, cardiovascular endurance, coordination, balance, agility, and range of motion. This program utilizes free weights, boxing bags, and agility ladders. Participants must be able to participate in the class independently and complete exercises from floor mats.
An in-person fitness assessment must be completed before participating in this program.
U-Tunes (Green/Yellow)
U-Tunes is a Music Therapist designed class that incorporates breath work, vocal warm-up, and singing/music activities to promote overall wellness. U-Tunes uses the powerful effects of music to sustain neurological processes such as coordination, movement, and rhythm. In addition, the program supports the strengthening and maintenance of the voice and swallowing ability.

Meet for Coffee Support Group
Care Partner Support Group
At U-Turn Parkinson’s we understand that care providers need support too. Designed exclusively for care partners, this group provides a supportive community where you can freely share your experiences, ask questions, explore resources, and gain insights from others who face similar challenges. Our sessions create a confidential environment to address the emotional, physical, and practical aspects of caregiving.
You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Join our Care Partner Support Group and discover the strength of mutual support as we navigate the path of caregiving together. Let’s face the challenges, celebrate the victories, and walk hand in hand, every step of the way.

Dance with Parkinson's (Green/Yellow)
Experience the joy and benefits of dance! U-TurnPD is pleased to now offer Dancing With Parkinson’s, a program where people living with Parkinson’s can come together to dance and connect. Dance offers so many benefits to people living with Parkinson’s, offering excellent exercise, Improved energy and mobility.

Tai Chi (Green/Yellow)
Tai Chi is a low-impact exercise that allows participants to work on balance, coordination, and flexibility. Tai Chi has been found to improve motor function, improve posture, decrease rigidity, and lower risk of falls.
In our Tai Chi class, you will be guided through a series of flowing movements that are designed to be easy on the joints and accessible to all levels of ability. You’ll learn how to coordinate your breath with your movements, promoting relaxation and mindfulness. Tai Chi helps to strengthen both the upper and lower body, and helps to stabilize the core and back to reduce stiffness and improve range of motion.
The class will be conducted in a supportive and inclusive environment, with opportunities for individualized attention and modifications to meet your specific needs. We encourage you to move at your own pace and take breaks as needed.
By the end of the class, you’ll leave feeling energized, relaxed, and more connected to your body!

Power Stretch (Green/Yellow)
Power Stretch combines functional strength, core, stabilization, and balance exercises with breathing and stretching to increase range of motion, balance, and agility.
Participants in this program will be able to join at the pace that works best for them, with modifications of exercises provided for safety and ability, including seated and assisted options.
Meet for Coffee Support Group
Meet for Coffee is an informal support group where folks living with PD can socialize, champion one another, share resources, and find their community. Participants get the chance to make personal and genuine connections with others who truly understand their unique journey and discuss topics specific to living well with PD.

Colour Code Glossary
Green
For those who have significant fall risk and / or balance restrictions.
Yellow
For participants who may need assistance getting up or down off the floor, or those who are just getting into an exercise lifestyle.
Orange
For those able to move around and exercise independently, but at a slower pace.
Red
Participants with no restrictions or conditions.
What To Know Before You Go

What To Wear/Bring
For all exercise based programs, it is recommended that participants bring indoor only, clean sneakers and comfortable clothing you can exercise in. We recommend bringing water, medications and any mobility aids you may need.
Assessments for Empower U and Golden Gloves:
Prior to participating in In-Person Empower-U and Golden Gloves programming participants are required to complete a one-on-one assessment to determine which classes may be the best fit for them. The simple assessment takes approximately one hour and includes a discussion about health history to ensure we provide appropriate modifications as necessary, functional exercises to assess physical ability, balance exercises to determine fall risk, and a cognitive assessment to determine the level of independence for class. All information is kept confidential and only relevant information will be shared with class coaches for your safety and optimal experience.
For assessments, please wear comfortable clothing for exercise and clean sneakers. Don’t forget your medication and water!
Arriving for Class
For your safety and the consideration of the coaches and volunteers setting up for class, please do not arrive more than 20 minutes early for class! You will have ample time to change your shoes and visit with other participants.
